Arts in Education Week 2021
September 12- September 18
🎼🎙️It’s Day 2 of Arts in Education Week 2021!
Today we are featuring our Vocal Music Program!🎙️🎼
Here at Fort Atkinson High School, we have so many ways for choral students to be involved! 1FORT Performing Arts includes both curricular classes- such as Chamber Choir, Blackhawk Choir, Junior Varsity Show Choir and Varsity Show Choir along with extra-curricular activities such as Musical Productions and Performing Arts Recitals. During the school day, students have the opportunity to work on breath control techniques, sight reading, musicianship, and many other components of vocal music performance.
On special occasions throughout the school year, guest clinicians from across the country join our students for single-day workshops that focus on continued growth not only as a performer, but as a student as well.
🎭 1FORT Performing Arts produces a full-scale Musical Production in the fall of each school year. On an annual basis, our shows earn acclaim through the Jerry Awards program which recognizes excellence in performance and production across Wisconsin- FAHS has recently won such awards as: “Outstanding Musical”, “Outstanding Direction”, “Outstanding Stage Management”, “Outstanding Choreography”, “Outstanding Lighting Design”, and more.🎭
💃1FPA also has an outstanding history of success with its curricular Show Choir program! Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Show Choirs travel to other schools throughout the region for competitions. In recent years, the show choir program has amassed numerous top-level placements including awards for vocal music, choreography, and stage crew at both the regional and national levels.💃

🎼🎺It’s Day 4 of Arts in Education Week 2021! Today we are highlighting the FAHS Band Program!🎺🎼
The Fort Atkinson High School Band Program has a long history of filling the halls of FAHS with beautiful music. While many think of a traditional marching band when they think about a band program, Mr. Steger and the FAHS Band Program have so much more to offer!
🎷Jazz Band is a huge component of 1FORT Performing Arts. During these classes, students learn music from some of the big names of the Jazz Age- Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and more! These classes focus on some of the unique things that go into this wildly popular style of music such as improvisation, riffs, and melodic embellishments. 🎷
🥁The symphonic band and wind ensemble are both curricular opportunities for students to learn and explore this world of instrumental music. Similarly to the Vocal Music program, the 1FORT Band Program brings special guests to conduct workshops and clinics with our students to help them develop skills and learn from incredibly smart musicians. This group of guest clinicians is composed of professors from colleges or universities and also professional musicians or others from the performing arts industry. 🥁

🎼🎻It’s Day 6 of Arts in Education Week 2021! Today we are highlighting the FAHS Orchestra Program! 🎻🎼
We are so excited that the Fort Atkinson High School Orchestra program has grown so much over the past few years that we now have two separate orchestra classes. During these orchestra classes, students work with string instruments- including the violin, viola, cello, and bass to bring together incredible music and hone their skills as musicians.
🎶Just like its Vocal and Band Program counterparts, a student-favorite experience throughout the school year are guest clinician workshops. Students learn from at least two clinicians each year. The clinicians are professionals in the performing arts world that share their experiences and talents with current FAHS Students. 🎶
Orchestra students have the opportunity to play in FORTissimo Strings, an extracurricular ensemble that performs regularly for school and community events. Students can also perform on the new Electric String Quintet, play in the Pit Orchestra for the musical, and even perform in the pep band!
🎵In addition to leading the orchestra at the high school and middle school level, Mr. Callaway is also the advisor for the Tri-M Music Honor Society. This society helps to bring into focus excellence in citizenship and academics along with the excellence in music education in our performing arts programs. 🎵
